Writing Assignments

For all texts: if you do not meet the requirements (especially word count) the heighest grade you can earn is 60%.

Personal Truth--This will be a short, easy essay in which it's primary function is to be used for editing and practicing writing.

500 words, double spaced, 12 pt. font, title

Use a truth about yourself to practice creating a thesis, an academic paragraph structure, and incorperating quotes. Do not use sources (except for minor bits).  Include 2 quotes (something your mom said or common mantra's...)

Examples:
  • I believe aliens are real because
  • The word that best describes me is Ravenclaw
  • My sister's illness changed the way I see the world.
  • A truth about me is that I love to lie and yet am honest to a fault.
  • Using the middle finger--flipping people off--has no power.
Due: Bring in Printed copy Wed. Feb 5

Choose your own order: for the writing assignments below, you can decide in what order you do them in.  There will be due dates estabilished, but not which assignment is due.

Truth in the Text--You will pick one of the stories discussed in class and show what truth is at work and how the author has crafted it.

750-1,000 words, double spaced, 12 point font, title, works cited page (not included in word count)

Truth Explored--Pick a topic that interests you and analyze how truth is used.  Look at an article, movie, discussion board, commercial, artwork of a board game...

750-1,000 words, double spaced, 12 point font, title, works cited page (not included in word count)

Truth Interview--Interview someone and write about their views of the truth and how they use it in their life.  Shape this into an article/essay similar to the ones we read in class.  Do not just include your questions and their answers.

750-1,000 words, double spaced, 12 point font, title

Annotated Bibliography--find sources on your topic, write a summary and citation.

6 sources (min. 3 academic sources); choose your own citation style but be consistent and follow all the rules of the style

*note--academic sources means peer reviewed, usually from an academic journal.
